Tokyo, March 1, 2023 – Newton Investment Management (Newton) announces today the completion of the integration of BNY Mellon Investment Management’s (BNY Mellon IM) Japan equity team into Newton. This integration is the culmination of BNY Mellon IM’s initiative announced in 2021 to expand Newton’s global equities and multi-asset capabilities and industry-leading global research platform.

Kazuya Kurosawa, Head of Japan Equity Team, will continue to lead the Japan equity strategies as Director and Head of Investment in the newly established Newton Japan, which consists of 10 staff members, including five investment professionals managing three strategies:

  • Japan Small Cap Equity, with USD1.36bn in AUM* – a concentrated, high-conviction Japanese small cap equity portfolio that seeks to generate alpha by bottom-up selection
  • Japan All Cap Equity, with USD97mn in AUM* – aims to generate mid- to long-term growth by investing in both equities and futures to manage risks
  • Womenomics Japan Equity, with USD7mn in AUM* – a strategy that aims to capture the opportunities arising from the growing economic power of women
